Complete architectural redesign and zero-latency digital ordering experience for an iconic heritage cafe.
Overview
Cafe Rukma is a celebrated culinary institution known for artisanal brews, traditional heritage baking, and a devoted generational patron base.
Their legacy website suffered from heavy WordPress bloat, sluggish load times exceeding 4.2 seconds on mobile data, and an outdated PDF menu that frustrated patrons looking to browse seasonal specialties and make reservations. I was commissioned to lead a full architectural overhaul from scratch.
Rebuilding for sub-50ms speed
Re-engineered the entire web presence with Next.js App Router and Edge SSR, pre-rendering static routes while dynamically hydrating daily specialty menus through edge key-value caching.
Asset pipelines were ruthlessly optimized: WebP and AVIF responsive image sets, self-hosted variable typography with zero layout shift, and an ultra-lean CSS architecture that dropped total page weight by 74%.
Zero-latency mobile ordering and seasonal menu navigation
Digital menu & seamless customer experience
Replaced static PDFs with an interactive, categorized visual menu featuring instant ingredient filtering, dietary badges, and smart pre-fetching for instant tap responses.
Embedded a frictionless table reservation system directly connected to WhatsApp Business API and email notifications, eliminating third-party portal fees.
Results & business impact
Page load plummeted from 4.2s to under 380ms on mobile 4G networks. Direct online table reservations doubled in the first month, and mobile bounce rate dropped from 58% to 14%.
